Biography
Adriana Giotta is a Registered Consultant Clinical Psychologist, mentor to fashion models, executive coach, researcher, influencer, activist, writer and former international fashion model. She was born in the town of Martina Franca in Puglia, South East Italy where, at the age of 16, she was scouted to become a model and subsequently she moved to Milan where she began her modelling career whilst completing high school. For 14 years she showed great determination and perseverance in achieving her goals as an international fashion model, attaining significant success whilst living between New York, Paris, London, Tokyo and Milan. Since adolescence, Adriana has had a passion for psychology and philosophy, and whilst modelling she continuously read and studied the subjects deeply. In 2004, Adriana decided to quit modelling and to enrol at La Sapienza University in Rome where she began her more formal education in psychology. Adriana achieved first class honours with distinction in her Bachelor's degree in psychology and also in her Master's degree in clinical psychology. She speaks fluent Italian, English and French.
In 2010, Adriana launched her project to support models and people in positions of power throughout their careers. Her role is integrative with the model agencies. She mentors her clients through their challenges thereby providing the agencies with much more efficient, productive and empowered professionals. The reason why Adriana chose to invest so many years and so much energy and effort in her studying and in her degree in psychology, besides her passion for the subject, lies in her conviction that sooner or later there will be an increase in awareness among fashion models, largely due to the contribution of the internet and social media networks. Model agencies can highly benefit from foreseeing this trend by engaging with Adriana who is not only a former model, but also an individual with additional psychological, philosophical, feminine and professional competencies, who recognises all the aspects and implications of the industry in depth, having experienced it herself for almost two decades.
Adriana took a conscious path that led her to understand modelling not just to be a goal but also to be a tool of discovery in her own route in life towards becoming a fulfilled woman.
If model agencies understand that they can provide this role for their models, then also, with thanks to the contribution of figures like Adriana, new horizons of proficiency can unfold for their businesses; Adriana’s professionalism does not conflict with their established practices but rather it complements them. By enhancing and nurturing the professional role of the model, agencies will improve their own roles as trainers of the model figure in our society and in the economy. The sensitivity and awareness around these issues will progressively increase in models, more so than the signs may suggest today.
Adriana is simply foreseeing this trend, indeed she wants to be one of the protagonists. Being a pioneer in the process of social change within crucial and highly visible niches such as modelling allows her to be a protagonist and key contributor to the dynamics and new methods of approach in the industry. Ultimately this completes Adriana’s professional cycle which began with modelling. Adriana visualises the day when the model agencies will also act as life schools for their models, able to identify them not just as supermodels but also as professionals who can find positions at the end of their modelling careers in socially qualifying sectors rather than marginal or discredited sectors (if not worse). Adriana can help the agencies to monitor this trend and, in addition to delivering a tangible service which provides psychological and practical support to the present needs and challenges of their models, she provides an outpost to assess the ways and timings with which this process can be implemented, strategising with models on how to turn a threat into an opportunity.
Adriana’s experience as a successful model combined with the authority she has gained through her degrees in psychology, as well as her feminine and philosophical competencies, provide the fundamental added value in her pioneering role versus other model mentors who may provide professional competencies but only as experienced models. Adriana holds one-to-one sessions, group sessions and workshops in the European fashion cities. She also provides on-line Skype calls for those travelling around the globe. When working with Adriana, models find a neutral, safe and non-judgemental environment, where they can be confident in opening up, and where they can receive support whilst eventually having the chance of giving voice to their inner fears, emotions, problems, secrets and insecurities. She empathetically accompanies them along the challenging paths of their lives and careers and provides them with powerful tools and self-soothing techniques to release stress and manage the mind. She helps them to identify their potential, giving continuous impetus to their careers and also teaching them how to react constructively to the most challenging of situations.
Since she knows the bright and dark sides of the fashion industry so thoroughly, and because she is trained with psychological and philosophical
tools, Adriana can interpret events specific to the business and also provide precise and unique solutions, thereby representing a rare and valuable resource for the model and, as a consequence, the agency.
